David M.J. Lilley/李大卫

The RNA world hypothesis for the early development of life on the planet requires that RNA molecules (ribozymes) could have catalysed a wide variety of chemical reactions. Known ribozymes in contemporary biology carry out a limited range of chemical catalysis, mostly involving phosphoryl transfer, but in vitro selection has generated species catalysing a broader range of chemistry.

(More...)

Janusz M. Bujnicki < Computational modeling of RNA 3D structures and interactions with the use of experimental data >

Our research focuses on the structure of RNA and its interaction with RNA proteins. Using biophysics and computational simulation techniques, we explore the dynamic behavior and structural features of RNA and develop new RNA structure prediction algorithms. Additionally, we investigate the mechanism of action of RNA proteins, especially those related to diseases. (More...)

Jeffrey Kieft < Conformational dynamics and manipulation of the translation machinery by a viral RNA >

In this seminar, I will present our work towards understanding how a viral RNA binds the ribosome and enables a noncanonical "translation reinitiation" event. Combining bioinformatic, functional, and structural data from Cryo-EM, we propose a model for how this relatively small RNA uses programmed molecular motions within a surprisingly simple mechanism. Zhipeng Lu < Decoding the RNA structurome and interactome in cells >

In this seminar, He will present an overview of these technologies, and the recent discovery of a global snoRNA-tRNA interaction network. He invented a series of methods in the past 10 years, providing an unprecedented view of dynamic RNA 2D and 3D structures and interactions in the transcriptome in various physiological contexts and human diseases.
